Educational Aids

The Watt-Minder was created to assist consumers in measuring and managing their household electrical usage.

The Watt-Minder is basically an education tool. It helps to quantify the cost and usage of an abstract product (electrical energy) so that the end user can make informed decisions on how best to conserve the planet’s resources and their own energy dollars.

Sierra Energy Products believes it is important to teach young people about conservation. The future’s success is directly dependent on today’s youth and their understanding of the limited natural resources from the planet.

Listed below are a number of web site locations where lesson plans can be downloaded to assist educators in communicating this information to school age children.

Sierra Energy Products is also developing its own lesson plans which will be posted here in the near future.

  • Alliance to Save Energy
Teachers around the nation told us that they would like free, hands-on, multidisciplinary lesson plans in the hot area of energy. We have obtained rights for the lesson plans here for your classroom use. A number of them are used in the Alliance to Save Energy’s Green Schools Program—a unique, collaborative effort by teachers, administrators, and facilities and maintenance staff which reduces school energy costs at the same time it educates students. Each of these plans can be downloaded as a PDF file and printed out. Click on the appropriate level in the left-hand navigation bar to get started.

In addition, all lesson plans are fully integrated with the latest TEKS requirements. Lesson plans are grouped into three age levels designed for elementary school (grade 4), middle school (grade 6), and high school (grade 9). However, the lesson plans can be used in other grades as well, or by parents and home schoolers to teach their children about renewable energy.
